Dennis Gaxiola, the comedian for all audiences

and all ages, is coming to the College of Southern Idaho Fine Arts Theater at 7:30 Thursday, Feb. 16.

His website, www.dennisgaxiola.com, bills him as one of America’s funniest clean comedians. That’s made him stand out as he’s appeared with Jamie Foxx on Comedy Central, the Latino Kings of Comedy Tour

with Paul Rodriguez, BET’s Comic View, Martin Lawrence’s First Amendment Stand Up, New York City’s Apollo Theater, and other comedy venues. Gaxiola is the son, grandson, and nephew of a long

line of preachers. He draws from that and his Latino family history for lots of material in his comedy shows. He also headlines many youth conventions, marriage seminars, and other personal enrichment gatherings. Tickets at the door are $7 each. CSI students with current ID will be admitted free of charge.

Volunteers Needed

American Cancer Society Needs Breast

Cancer Survivors For Program That Helps Other Survivors Get Well After Breast Cancer Treatment.

This year, nearly 290,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. That is why

the American Cancer Society's Reach to Recovery program is so essential. Reach to Recovery is a program where breast cancer survivors meet

one-on-one with newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Reach to Recovery volunteers are needed

to support patients as they face one of the most traumatic times in their lives. Reach to Recovery volunteers must be breast cancer survivors at least

one year out of treatment. Volunteers are trained by

the Society and are then certified to meet with

patients. The American Cancer Society coordinates the appointments. If you are interested in becoming

a Reach to Recovery volunteer, please call Peg at

208-422-0846 or Mary at 208-734-1766. Or if you

just want to know more about the program and would like some information on Reach to Recovery, contact the American Cancer Society at

Three musicians will perform before an audience

in the CSI Fine Arts Recital Hall on Feb. 9 but they don’t know what they’ll play. They won’t have notes, music, or guidelines. They’ll just improvise together.

A unique concert of freely improvised music is the objective of guitarist Kris Hartung, saxophonist Brent Jensen, and percussionist Jared Hallock. Jensen,

CSI Music professor, says the group will offer a brief explanation to the audience about the process of improvisation and the audience will be able to ask questions. The show itself will be spontaneous, each musician listening to, reacting to, and anticipating the others’ performance. One thing is certain, it’ll never happen quite that way twice. Hartung is the founder

and artistic director of the Boise Creative and Improvised Music Festival. Hallock graduated from

the University of Idaho in percussion performance

and has since played with countless artists in Boise and elsewhere. Audio and videos of the trio can be found at www.boisemusicians.com/jensen-hartung

The performance will be at 7:30 Thursday, Feb. 9. Admission is free. A $5 suggested donation to

the CSI Music Scholarship fund is appreciated.
